Wage Equality in Phoenix March 24th, 2015

wage gap

March 24th, 2015

2:30pm

Phoenix City Council Chambers

200 West Jefferson Street

On March 24, the recommendations of the Equal Pay Work Group will come before the City Council Policy Session for a vote.  These recommendations were developed under the leadership of Councilwoman Kate Gallego (District 8) who in 2013 at the urging of Mayor Stanton, convened a working group  including senior city staff, business leaders, and nonprofit partners to review City policies regarding wage equality between women and men in City employment and contracts.  After almost a year of gathering information, analyzing and comparing the data and language, they formed recommendations.  The City Council will vote on whether to adopt these recommendations on March 24th.

The meeting is open to the public and you are encouraged to attend.  You are an important part of the City government. Your voice can make a difference to this and other issues affecting our city.

Equal Pay Day & Happy Birthday Lily Ledbetter

April 14, 2015

11:30 AM – 1:30 PM

Renaissance Phoenix Downtown

Equal Pay Day is held each year to spread awareness about pay equity between men and women in the United States. Equal Pay Day 2015 is April 14, 2015. This day marks how many days into 2015 women must work to earn the same income men did in 2014.

This year Lily Ledbetter will join AAUW of Arizona, the Phoenix Women’s Commission and other equal pay advocates to celebrate Equal Pay Day 2015. On the same day that President Obama on April 8, 2014, signed the two executive orders to increase pay protections for women in federal operations and settings, Mayor Greg Stanton requested that Councilwoman Kate Gallego form a working group – the Equal Pay Committee- to evaluate the City of Phoenix’s policies and to provide recommendations to ensure equal pay for equal work. That work culminated in recommended amendments to the City ordinance, approved by the Phoenix Women’s Commission and is scheduled for a vote by the City Council ion March 24, 2015.  Join us for this exciting by event that will touch on this and much  more.
