Covid-19 Not Transmitted Through Breastmilk

We know that pregnant women are more likely to experience complications from Covid-19 infection but what about transmitting virus to babies? So far studies have found no evidence of transmission of Covid-19 illness to babies in the uterus.  And today there is more hopeful news. Breast milk from mothers infected with Covid-19 isn’t likely to harm breastfeeding infants, a small new study concludes.

In a study published in Pediatric Research, scientists analyzed breast milk donated  to a California repository from March through September 2020 by 110 women. Sixty five of the women tested positive for Covid-19, nine had symptoms but tested negative, and 36 had symptoms but were not tested. Viral RNA was found in seven breast milk samples from women who tested positive or had symptoms.  None of the infants breastfed by these mothers developed Covid-19.
