Pregnancy affects every cell in a woman’s body and because of this, can impact every aspect of her health. In recent years research has been revealing just how important a woman’s health before pregnancy is for her health during pregnancy, her health risks after pregnancy and the health of her newborn, infant and adult child. We are also learning more about male contributions to fetal and infant outcomes in pregnancy. In the preconception consult visit, we will identify medical, social, behavioral and environmental factors for you and your partner and discuss how to modify these to maximize the chance of getting pregnant and having a healthy outcome for mother and baby.
