Benefits of participating

Studies show moms who have the opportunity for group prenatal care:

  • –become more actively engaged in their pregnancy and healthcare
  • –form networks of education and support for each other
  • –have better maternal and infant  health outcomes in some areas
  • –are better prepared for labor, delivery, and caring for their infant
  • –are more satisfied with their prenatal care experience

How does group care work

Groups of 9–12 women meet together for 10-12 sessions during pregnancy and postpartum. ______________________

Each session lasts approximately two hours
______________________

Group  starts with the care you are used to when meeting your provider one on one. (vital signs, fetal heart check etc.)
_________________________

The majority of the session is spent in active discussions led by a facilitator. Mothers-to-be take the lead role, talking, teaching and sharing their pregnancy experiences.
__________________________

Discussion topics include the following and more: nutrition T exercise T relaxation techniques T infant care and feeding T contraception T comfort measures in pregnancy and birth T sexuality T preparation for childbirth and parenting.
